No traveler would ever expect to arrive in the German capital and be faced with the mundane and ordinary, but for those looking to really indulge their weird and wonderful urges, Berlin really does serve up some decidedly ‘alternative’ treats. So, if planning a trip as far removed from your cozy offices and reception desks as possible, why not consider the following five weird wonders of Berlin:The Bathing Ship (Badenschiff)Probably the most wonderful thing about the Bathing Ship is where you’ll find it – that being behind a rather spooky and entirely dilapidated abandoned bus depot. Needless to say, the last place on Earth you’d expect to find a scene from Miami Beach, with firm, bronze bodies baking on the sands, men making their best moves at the bar and a cool oasis of blue water. A portal to the Med? No, an old river barge converted into a beach resort by day and a throbbing club by night…marvelous!

The Berlin Absinth DepotOne of the most controversial and indeed sought-after drinks in history, absinthe is indeed alive, kicking and 100% legal in Germany. True, it might only take less than a shot too many to send the average person right over the edge into the abyss and beyond, but what better place to give the stuff a go than a dedicated deposit stocking hundreds of types of the genuine article. WeinereiA wonderfully charming idea for a wine bar, which unfortunately if adopted worldwide would see 99% of all businesses going bust within 24 hours – and shame on us all for that. At the Weinereis, guests pay just a single Euro as the rental charge for a wine glass, after which they are free to taste and sample as any as they wish for as long as they wish. When satisfied, you decide how much you want to pay in line with how much you drank and how good the wine was.

Trabant Car SafariTake a trip back to not exactly simpler times and tour the East side of Berlin in one of the most iconic vehicles of the time – the sewing machine-sized Trabant. Get an amazing insight into what life was really like from those who know it best and are not afraid to speak/shout/scream their minds!Unsicht BarNot a unique idea by any stretch of the imagination, but why not give pitch-black blind dining a go while blowing off some steam in Berlin? The Unsicht Bar is one of the best to be found anywhere in the world today – the food is simply mind-blowing.

You may say to yourself “Pacing the amount you drink is for losers. I’m going to get wasted!” Fair enough. but don’t you think you would have a much better night if you could last a lot longer…physically and mentally? Being too drunk can sometimes be like waving PVC banners around declaring your innermost secrets.Imagine not being sick down your front, not saying anything embarassing/outrageous to someone you fancy and not having a hangover the next day. Imagine being in control! Read on to find out more about how to pace yourself when partying…

The old wives tale “line your stomach before you go out drinking” is, in fact, true! Make sure you eat a meal that includes either bread, potatoes, pasta or fatty foods such as chips. This will slow down alcohol absorption and you will be less likely to throw up earlier on.

Pace yourself generally means have a drink and then wait for it to take effect. Once you start to feel a bit more sober then you can allow yourself another drink. This means you will have a much clearer judgement on whether you need more alcohol.

Taking a break between alcoholic drinks is also a good idea. This could be a soft drink like Coca Cola or lemonade, or even water. Your body will thank you in the morning. You wll remain fairly hydrated throughout the party, thus your chances of contracting an evil hangover are vastly reduced.

Don’t mix your drinks. As the well-known saying goes: “Beer before wine and you’ll be fine. Wine before beer and you’ll feel queer.” Well, the truth is you may feel a bit queer whichever way round you decide to drink beer or wine. Be careful and stick to the same drink.

Hopefully, you will be a balanced enough human to realise you can have a good time without getting completely wasted. Have fun and try not to worry about overdrinking.

Regular readers of my humble blog could be forgiven for thinking that I’m some kind of party animal who spends my weekends either drunk or hungover; constantly searching for the next party; and staying well away from the cultural haunts of London as possible. OK, I admit I like a few cheeky drinks of a weekend, and there’s nothing better than shaking your tail feather for relaxing after a tough week chained to my desk at the gas oil suppliers. But even I have been known to have the odd cultural night out. I once even went to the opera. Hated every minute, but I still went…

No, when it comes to my culture I prefer my performances without music; I’m a theatre fan and always have been. I used to harbour dreams of making it as an actor myself until I saw the light and realised that if I couldn’t even get beyond the chorus in the school play, it was unlikely I’d be picking up that Oscar any time soon! I’m a regular at the National Theatre and the Old Vic and think its criminal how many Londoners have never even been to see one play in this theatrical capital. I’d even forgive them if they’d been to a West End show, but that is mainly for the tourists.

The real deal is on at the National, and I’m super excited to have tickets for the new Nicholas Hytner production which is opening soon. Hytner is the guy behind the phenomenally successful National production of War Horse now appearing at a cinema near you, so I’m expecting big things. The subject matter of “Travelling Light” is strangely topical given the current success of the modern silent movie “The Artist” as it deals with the very early days of cinema – and if the play about silent films is only half as good as the film about silent films, then I’ll be very happy indeed!

Notting Hill Carnival is the place to be this weekend! If your not there now then get going as you do not want to miss out as this year it is jam packed with the coolest and craziest events around this bank holiday weekend. You could call it the party of the year!

The Notting Hill Carnival is a great place for children to appreciate multicultural London in all its glory, with people from all backgrounds and cultures coming in to enjoy the event.

It is the biggest carnival in Europe and the events run from morning to late in to the night, the event is vivid, bright and unique with something for everyone to get involved in! Fancy a bit of dancing on the street or perhaps you would like to try some interesting foods, the masquerade bands put on a show for all and the sound systems are pumping away well past sun down.

The Main parade kicks of on monday with a huge mass of floats and dancers dressed in the most extravagent costumes you will ever see. The costumes are made form all kinds of fabrics, from voils to cotton fabrics to more extreme metals and unusual materials.

The music will be beating from the sound of the steel drums and the crowd will be partying in the streets all weekend long. Unless you have a really good excuse you should be making plans to get over there and the best part of all is that the admission is FREE!

Similar Posts:
Visit The Country More : The country gets a bad rap.

Bright clothes, massive hair, loads of dancing and the 70s coming alive in intense atmosphere of love and fun and awesomeness. Sound good to you?

If you answered No, my friend, I wouldn’t be caught dead at some rubbish 70s disco then you know where the door is (if you don’t it’s the X at the top right of your screen).

But if you answered Where can I find this top notch super excitement, I love dancing, me! then, my friend, you have come to the right place: I’m talking about Boogie Wonderland at The Junction, Cambridge, of course.

It is, quite simply, most excellent fun and you need to get your 70s butt there right now. Or if not now then soon, very soon, this weekend, in fact…

It’s simple: if you live in or around Cambridge then you will have heard about Boogie. It’s one of the funnest and best nights going. Here’s how it goes…

You arrive and see the glowing perspex signs above the door. The queue is long but in a good way. Everyone is dressed Boogie-style: flairs, big hair, big smiles, all that stuff.

one day you will look back at this time and wonder why you didn’t make the most of it more often. But at least you will have those incredible memories

As the door-man appears – who is, amazingly, wearing a smile like you are – the doors open and the 70s disco inferno blazes out in a rush of sound. You know you came to the right place. You can feel your dancing feet burning…the need to get in there and have the time of your life.

It is going to go OFF!

Of course, you’re a bit worried that it won’t live up to the hype. You went once before but who is to say it’ll be as good as last time? You should never be too confident.

But as you wait to go in you can’t help but feel excited. It is so exciting. It is so amazing, the vibe here…and one day you will look back at this time and wonder why you didn’t make the most of it more often. But at least you will have those incredible memories of boogey on the dance floor and all that love. Love for everyone, no matter what shape or creed or colour.

Inside, as you enter, it’s raging hot already and the club has only been open for an hour! You love it, you want it, and so you make your way straight to the dance floor to have the best time going. You’re not even going to drink; there’s only one reason you are here and it is to PARTY!

And we’re talking really different…

The Junction, know as one of the most diverse entertainment venues in the UK has been around for a while and it just keeps getting better…

Cambridge: I know what you might be thinking…stiff-suited professors who rarely see the light of day…students everywhere…overpriced accommodation. And while all of these stereotypes couldn’t be more true – sorry! – there is another side of Cambridge which couldn’t be more different. And we’re talking really different…

The Junction, know as one of the most diverse entertainment venues in the UK, has been around for a while and it just keeps getting better. Recent years have seen the place refurbished, with bigger and better acts doing some great live shows. And don’t think for a second that this venue hasn’t seen the likes of the biggest stars. I vividly remember seeing Amy Winehouse up on stage, way back, well before she became the huge drinking / singing force she is today, and singer-songwriters like Jamie Cullum have also been no stranger.

Every year this place kicks out 100s of sessions to at least a hundred thousand expectant customers. And it really is diverse. We’re not just talking singing and stand-up, we’re talking dance – all kinds, from classic to contemporary and street – and every kind of live music imaginable, as well as theatre and events which have been inspiring young people for a decade.

In other words, it’s worth visiting!

We didn’t even talk about the space yet: this is where The Junction really comes into its own.

With 3 large spaces on offer, various acts can find the perfect place to perform. Either in the large room to a decent crowd, or in a smaller room to a more intimate group of hardcore fans. Whatever the occasion, this venue is sure to be able to accommodate it, so why not drop by there and see where many big names started out? (Just don’t make the mistake of wearing a rubbish T-shirt with laser hair removal bournemouth on it, OK? My friend did and they wouldn’t let him in. I can’t blame them. The T-shirt was abysmal…)

London nightlife is best known for its fine mix of entertainment that ranges from spending tranquil nights with near ones, enjoying fine cuisine to loud funky music filled clubs with people young at heart. Now it’s your choice to pick the right way to spend a great night out in this mesmerizing city.

When it comes to selecting London nightlife, you will get a variety of choices starting from nightclubs, style bars and wine bars. London nightlife won’t be complete without dancing, drinks and of course music. Wine bars are an ideal place to enjoy the company of the close ones and friends. The usual quiet setting of these places offer space for conversation which might otherwise be hindered or difficult to achieve at various other venues. The nightclubs in London are full of rocking music. The finest choices of all time include the Egg, the Island and Floridita.

For people in search of some sophisticated night out, look no further than experiencing its popular theatre scene. London houses several theaters compared to most other cities around the world. Adelphi Theatre is one of the popular choices to experience upscale musicals. On the other hand, Royal Court Theatre offers viewers some of the newest voices and works. The Vaudeville Theatre, started in 1926 with a popular show called the RSVP, is another favorite place.

London nightlife also offers you the option to check the fine dining options. The La Trompette provides customers a romantic ambiance, some fabulous French cuisine and wine list which would be impressive even for the biggest wine enthusiast. The River Café offers visitors an opportunity to sit back, relax as well as unwind to the view of the riverside park. It serves some of the most flavorful Italian delicacies to be found in London.

All those people looking to spend a night out in London would find the night life to be interesting. You may choose to visit the elegant theaters or party in the night clubs or have a romantic dinner at a fine dining restaurant. The best part is that no one will be judging you, so you do not really have to use majirel hair colour to fit in with the crowd.
